All Kerala Inter Ayurveda College Indoor Games Competition 2010 was held on 14th and 15th july at Govt.Ayurveda College ,Trivandrum. This tournament is consecutively being conducted in memory of COM.Ajay for 5 years .This tournament includes Carroms,Table Tennis & Chess as the events.This paves the way for 17 Ayurveda Colleges in Kerala to show there excellency in respective events .

We bagged a handfull of championships which paved the way for us to clinch the Overall Runners-up Championship made us to reach the Second position among 17 Ayurveda colleges in Kerala.

The name Mohiniattam literally means ‘Dance of the Enchantress,’ and it does have a mesmerizing quality. The white and gold costume, arresting hairstyle and the highly graceful movements in medium tempo, contribute to this aesthetic effect. Mohiniattam is characterized by swaying movements of the upper body with legs placed in a stance similar to the plie position. The eyes play an important role in accenting the direction of the movement. Mention of Mohiniattam is found in some eighteenth century texts, but the practical aspect of the style was revived in the reign of Maharaja Swati Tirunal, a 19th century ruler who was a great patron of the arts. Under Swati Tirunal, Mohiniattam crystallized as a solo dance tradition with musical compositions set to the Carnatic style of music and a distinct repertoire. Later, in the twentieth century, the great poet Vallathol established the Kerala Kalamandalam to promote the arts of Mohiniattam and Kathakali. Over the past few decades, the repertoire of Mohiniattam has been developed and expanded by dedicated performers who have ensured that this beautiful dance style retains a distinct identityamong the classical dance styles of India. Apart from mythology, Mohiniattam contains a range of themes from nature.

METHIL DEVIKA

Devika has had the blessing of being trained by some of the most proficient teachers of classical dance. Devika received her initial tutelage in dance at the age of four from Kalaimamani S. Natarajan, a disciple of veterans  Balu Bhagavathar and K. P. Kittappa Pillai. Guru Natarajan belongs to the illustrious family upholding the tradition of Mellattur Bhagavatha Mela Natakam in Tanjavur. Devika was also trained by Guru Vempatty Ravi at the Kuchipudi Dance Academy run by the legendary Padmabhushan Dr. Vempatty Chinna Satyam. Devika took her Masters degree in Kuchipudi at Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkatta with a first rank and gold medal. Devika is trained in Mohiniyattom under Smt. Girija Chandran, student of Kalamandalam Kalyanikuttyamma and director, Regatta Cultural Society, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. She also trained for a brief period under Kalamandalam Leelamma mastering the technicalities of the much-acclaimed Kalamandalam sampradaya of Mohiniyattom. She is associated with scholars like Dr. V.S. Sharma, Kavalam Narayana Panikker and Nelliyode Vasudevan Nampoothiri for their guidance in many facets of choreography

Amrita Samyoga, 2010, a seminar on “Traditional Systems of Ayurveda, Yoga and Nature Cure” was conducted in Amrita School of Ayurveda on 8th and 9th of July 2010.The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Prabhath, I. A. S., Chairman, NCRI, Hyderabad and shared his views on integration of different systems of medicine. Keynote address was given by Dr. C. R. Agnivesh, Principal, Nangelil Ayurveda Medical College on “Preservation of Traditional Systems of Medicines”. He stressed upon the need for change in the Ayurvedic researches sticking the Basic Principles of the science. Dr. Santhi Nair, Chairman, Institute of Nanoscience, expressed his views on the utility of nanotechnology, to increase the potency and public acceptance of Ayurvedic medicines. Dr. N. P. P. Namboothiri, Managing Director, Sreedhareeyam, delivered a lecture on Traditional Eye Care, in the management of common eye diseases. Yoga and Meditation demonstration session was also organized under the guidance of Swami Samarpanananda Saraswathi, Yoga instructor, Ettimadai. Dr. T. K. Siamalan, appreciated the contribution by Keraleeya Vaidyas in Balachikitsa, various methods for Antenatal and Postnatal Care was also mentioned. Dr. Siamalan also told “Karapan” is a common terminology used by Keraleeya Vaidyas to denote the various dermatological conditions found in children. Most of the traditional literature is recorded in Palm leaves. Preservation of Manuscripts is very important. Prof. Dr. Sam explained various methods to preserver and decode the information. The inaugural session was presided over by Br. Dr. Sankara Chaithanya. Dr. B. Syamala, delivered the welcome note and Dr. A. Nanda Kumar, expressed the Vote of Thanks. Around 700 delegates from over 12 Ayurveda colleges, from inside and outside the state, participated in the seminar. The seminar paved a way for the preservation protection and Propagation of Traditional Systems of Medicines.

3 DAYS WORKSHOP ON SAMSKRITA @AMRITA

“SAMSKRITA POSHINI” the active students club of the Dept. of Basic Principles of Ayurveda, AAMC, is organizing a workshop on spoken Sanskrit and Basic grammar learning between 16^th July to18th July, with the co-ordination of “SAMSKRITA BHARATHI” Kodangallur.

This camp aims at innovating keen interest among youth in learning Samskrit, and thereby enabling the students to speak and write Samskrit. By this, an opportunity is provided for moulding a path by which the students can stay close to our culture. Also, the fruitful knowledge in Samskrit will definitely help the students to use the Samhitas and their commentaries written in the Samhitas and addition of text books from the available manuscripts.

As per the AIDS awareness programme of the central government , there was a train called red ribbon express that was running throughout india for the period of one year. This train was having a stop on Karunagapally railway station on 27^{th and 28th march 2010the 3rd year students of amrita Ayurveda College under the department of Swastha Vritta by the instruction of HOD Dr. Unnikrishnan and lecturer Dr. Anusree conducted a street play on AIDS awareness.}

There was 6 members who participated in the drama , Muneer Kutty, Arun Mohan, Sai Krishna, Uttham Sha V. , Amal Raj and Vishnukanth. The theme was giving awareness that AIDS patients are also the part of the society.

All the people enjoyed the drama and they expressed their congrats by applauses.

 Kanjikuzhy Grama Panchayat in  Alappuzha district had organized 8 day long exhibitions, seminars, health awareness programmes to the people on behalf of the AYUR FEST 2010. The emphashis was given to our prestigious science of medicine “AYURVEDA”. Our Amrita School of Ayurveda was the one which glittered throughout the 8 th day long event. There were 3 stalls allotted for the best Ayurveda college in Kerala. Two stalls were particularly used for emphasizing the Ashtangas of Ayurveda and the third one was exclusively for the medicines – through our Amrita Life.

The students of our college were very eager to participate in the exhibition and to represent such a well known college. When our principal, Dr.B.Syamala has asked us to take the charge of the Ayurfest, we were in a dilemma, who all should go? More than 100 students of the 2008 and 2009 batch were waiting for a chance to represent our college. Finally, Kannan Sagar, Aravind, Rijin, Arun, Amal, Jayakrishnan and Ajoy of the 2008 batch got the opportunity to represent the college.

The inaugural function took place on the 1st May 2010 at 4 pm. The honourable Minister for Finance, and the Mararikkulam MLA, Dr. T.M.Thomas Issac inaugurated the function and lighted the lamp in the presence of our respected Medical Director Dr.Br.Sankara Chaitanya and the Kanjikuzhi Grama Panchayat President Sri.Anilkumar on the inaugural day itself, the honourable minister visited our stall and Dr.Br.Sankara Chaitanya explained to him about the various aspects of Ayurveda and the line of treatment methodology followed in our college. Aroud 4 lakhs people from the various part of the state, attended the Ayurfest. Day by day, the number of viewer has increased, and the organizers had no doubt in telling frankly, that it is only because of Amrita Ayurveda medical college. The dissected human body with various organs, were the centre of attraction for the majority of the people. Most of the people were seeing, a dissected body for the first time. A special thanks to our Anatomy Head of the Department, Dr.S.A.K.Jeelani should be given as, he who guided us to work hand in hand.

 Also the bones which were exhibited caught the attention of many, informative charts and wall papers,the history of Ayurveda and the progress of Ayurveda, form the time immemorial, were very much informative for the visitors. Eminent doctors from the various parts of Kerala, has taken Seminars, as such type of awareness was very much needed for the community of Cherthala, which is a disease hit area in the map of Kerala.

Fever and Chicken Guniea were the two diseases, which thrashed the life’s of many in Cherthala and surrounding places for the last couple of years. So, such an exhibition and awareness programme organized by our Amrita Ayurveda Medical College, was a great relief for the public.

From the beginning to the end, our Medical Director, Dr.Br.Sankara Chaitanya  has helped us a lot, which is the reason for the unity, our students shown at Kanjikuzhy and that made the event a grand success.
By the end, we are glad to see that, the people of Alappuzha district will maintain their health according to our advices “HEALTH IS WEALTH”.

Amma has often spoken about the importance of practicing some hatha yoga every day. She expressed a wish to offer ongoing yoga courses at Amritapuri. This program is being introduced as Amrita Yoga.

Amrita Yoga is systemized to ensure the highest standard of technical training in yoga with Amma’s spiritual teachings providing the foundation. At present a two-week immersion program and a four-day intensive course is being planned.

During the course, the students will stay at Amritapuri. The program includes two daily asana classes, meditation and talks on yoga philosophy by Amma’s disciples. The students also will be participating in the daily ashram activities — archana, bhajans and seva.
