VIRECHANA

This involves purgation induced by medicine. Evacuation of the fecal matter and other accumulation of dosha in the lower gastrointestinal tract through the anal route are known as virechana karma. Expulsion of the waste from the body is the verbal meaning of the word virechana. Among the three doshas the morbid accumulation of pitta dosha is best eliminated by this procedure. Abnormal accumulation of kapha dosha in the lower gastrointestinal tract, or pittasthana is also cleared by the virechana karma.Virechana especially for elimination of Pita related toxins from the body. It is the procedure where the medicines are consumed orally to evacuate the stool along with the vitiated Pitta.

To begin with the patient is treated with snehana and svedana procedures, and is followed by the induction of vomiting. The patient is then subjected to samsarjana karma to complete the procedure.
